Swine Flu Could Keep Freedom Pole Vaulter From State Meet

Trent Wiseman, a premier pole vaulter from Freedom High School in Tampa, has his season waivering in the air like a bouncing crossbar. An apparent suspicion of swine flu at Freedom High School has caused the school to shut down for 7 days. The ruling from the FHSAA states that any athlete belonging to a member school that is shut down on Friday, will be required to participate in a separate state meet to be held on Saturday, May 16th at Showalter Field in Winter Park. There is a chance that Freedom High School could be reopened on Friday and that would allow Trent Wiseman and Perri Rothenberg, along with the other members of the Freedom track team, to participate with the other 3A athletes on Friday, May 8th. There have been conflicting stories as to whether the results of a make up meet would be integrated into the 3A results or if they would be stand alone results - the last I heard, the results would be separate. I’ll try and keep everyone updated.
